Now, 70 years after WWII ended, it is about time we reminded ourselves what people gave up all those years ago, in order for us to live the lives we do today.
Remembrance Sunday is just a few days away and it is very easy for people to lose sight of the real meaning of this important day.
Thousands of soldiers gave their lives during the first and second world wars to ensure we remained safe.
Not to mention, all of the service men and women who have lost their lives in combat since 1945 to maintain our freedom.
Without these heroic individuals our world would be a very different place.
There is always war going on somewhere in the world, which means as you are reading this, someone is risking their life to protect their land and country.
In order to remind you of the importance of remembering all of these courageous soldiers, we decided to gather a collection of images that reflect the hardships people had to endure during WWII.
While you are taking your minute silence this year, we hope you reflect on these photographs and realise how vital our troops efforts are, to ensure we carry on living our carefree lives.
Before starting this slideshow, we would just like to warn you that some of the following pictures are shocking and may upset some readers.
